THE COVENANT. Episode 7

The nurses led Kambili out of the labour room. It was then that he asked about his unborn child and he was told that he didn't make it as well. He was heartbroken.
He called his uncle and told him about his wife's demise. He quickly went to the hospital with his wife.
They sympathized with him.
His uncle took over communicating with the hospital management concerning Christy's body and the bills involved, his wife stayed with Kambili.
After the procedures in the hospital, they followed Kambili to his house. They knew he doesn't have any close relatives except them.
His uncle's children also came over and stayed with him.
Later on, Christy was buried in her husband's compound in the village according to their custom.
It had been more than six months after Christy's burial and Kambili hadn't gotten over her. He refused to remove all her pictures in his apartment but whenever he looked at those pictures, he would start shedding tears.
His cousins usually come to check on him from time to time.
He felt he had lost a part of him. At his workplace, he was always sober and minding his business.
Two years later, he was still lonely and moody. His family was worried and couldn't condone it. His uncle requested to see him.
One evening after work, Kambili went to see his uncle. His uncle was seated in the living room. Kambili greeted him and sat down.
"My son, you are welcome."
"Thank you, sir."
"How is work going?"
"Fine sir."
"Kambili, I'm worried about your present condition."
Kambili was mute
"My son, you can't continue like this. I understand the pain but you need to move on with your life. You are gradually losing yourself."
"I will be fine sir."
"You need to get another wife. It will help you get over this misery. I will look out for a good girl for you if you can't find one."
"Don't worry, I'll get one myself."
"Ok, make sure you do."
"Alright, sir."
They talked about other things and he later left.
Kambili doesn't joke with what his uncle tells you.
From that day on, he started thinking towards what his uncle said. He needed to please his uncle.
There was a young lady that had been trying to get his attention since his wife died, she stayed in the same street with him. She had visited him a couple of times and for once offered to make food for him but Kambili didn't allow her to stay too long or even cook for him.
So Kambili decided to give the lady a chance.
Kambili was coming back from work one Friday evening when he saw her coming. He stopped his car beside her and they exchanged pleasantries.
He requested to see her any time she was free. The lady was so happy.
She didn't hesitate to go. The following afternoon, she left for Kambili's house.
He was mopping the floor when she knocked and entered.
She greeted him and quickly collected the mop stick from him and started mopping the floor. After that she made food and they both ate.
They got to know each other more. Afterwards, she left.
Later on, the girl continued visiting him. She promised to help him get over his pains.
The new relationship sure helped him move on but no one can replace his Christy. He thinks about her every day. He tried so hard not to remember her each passing day.
