A few days later, Chief's wife was at home alone when her phone rang and it was her friend calling.
"Asa Odogwu!!"
"Madam Gold, this one you remembered me today. Hope I'm safe?"
"You are safe Asa m."
"Ok oo, so wetin dey happen?"
"My birthday party is coming up on Sunday."
"Yes oo, where's the venue."
"It's at Kampala hotel and Suites, I'll be using their mini hall."
"Wow, it's going to be hot."
"You know me na."
"Original Madam Gold!"
"You fit come with your bobo oo, cos our husbands aren't invited. I told my husband the party was strictly for the ladies."
"Does he even have time?"
They both laughed.
"Na so. I'll be expecting you, Asa."
"No problem."
She hung up the call.
Madam Gold was popularly known for importing expensive gold jewellery. Most people who patronize her are the bigshots in town and those make up her circle of friends.
Chidi lived like he was a member of Chief's family. Chief wasn't bothered about that, Nnamdi doesn't care either. Since Senior left, Nnamdi was minding his business.
So on Sunday afternoon, Chief was in the living room watching television and his wife joined him.
"Honey, I want to go and see my friend and my car develop a little fault. I want to take it to the mechanic."
"You can use my car."
"But today is your club's meeting, you will need the car."
"Oh, I forgot, so what do you want to do."
"I want to go with Chidi. I will drop the car off with the mechanic and he will stay and watch him fix it. You know how these people behave when you leave your car with them without monitoring it, they would leave it and fix other people's own."
"That's true."
Chief agreed that she would go with Chidi.
They continued with other discussions and later on, she left for the bedroom.
She then called Chidi and informed him that they would be going out together. She told him to wear a smart outfit.
"Be fast, we will be leaving in no time."
Later on, both of them left for the party.
When they got to the venue, the whole place was buzzing. It was filled with prominent and classy ladies in town and a few young men.
Chief's wife asked Chidi to sit and she left to greet the celebrant.
"Madam Gold! The number one Gold mama in town!"
"Asa Odogwu! baby Oku! You are welcome Asam, you came alone?"
"No," she then looked towards the direction where Chidi was seated.
"Who is he?"
"My new ride, my latest Venza."
"Omo!!! I no dey call you baby oku for mouth. How far is the other guy?"
"I don drop am, he wanted to k!ll me with bills."
"Don't mind them, you sure say this one no go do the same."
"No, e no fit."
"Omo! Na chasis oo."
"Yes oo, with confirm engine."
"You too like better thing."
They both laughed.
When she was done greeting the celebrant and other guests, she went and stayed with Chidi.
They were served special delicacies and expensive drinks. One doesn't need to be told that the celebrant was excessively rich.
Chidi looked around in admiration. He saw other young men that came with some of the ladies. He believed they were serving the same purpose as himself.
He loved the way the rich women rapport among themselves. Some came to greet them. He felt he was mingling with the elites.
They were still eating and drinking when the celebrant came out to dance. Some joined her.
Later on, Chief's wife joined them in dancing.
Chidi stayed back and was sipping a glass of wine.
They were still busy dancing when one of the servers went to meet Chidi with a phone. He told Chidi that the celebrant wanted to have his number.
Chidi gladly typed his number on the phone.
