I was sitting at the back with two women, and one boy was sitting in front of the driver.
As we were heading to one junction, we saw some police officers, they waved at our driver to stop. Our driver moved to a safe side of the road and stopped.
The boy wore a big round-neck shirt and shorts. He was putting on earrings and had dreadlocks.
The boy got down and the officer asked him to follow him. Our driver got down and followed them too.
They went to where the police vehicle was packed.
There was another boy believed to be an offender already inside their vehicle there.
Later on, the boy and the driver came back.
We asked them what happened.
The boy just sat back without saying a word.
The driver said they searched through the boy's phone but didn't see what they were looking for. He also said that the police held the other boy who was in their vehicle because of what they saw on his phone.
After his explanations, the two women sitting beside me started talking.
Woman 1: If I were the one doing this thing, they would never catch me. How can you come out with the phone you use for 'hustling?'
Woman 2: I wonder oo.
Women 1: My nephew is doing Yahoo, he dresses well, with no dreads and no earrings, you can hardly tell.
Woman 2: Exactly, that's how it should be.
My child that's doing yahoo doesn't listen to me. I have told him severally to stop keeping dreads and stop wearing earrings, that he's exposing himself.
Woman 1: He should better listen, this my nephew has made it. If you see the number of property that he has acquired in different locations, you go bow. He's doing well and I'm happy for him.
Woman 2: I just wish my child would listen to me. I can't wait for my child to hit it big like his mates.
They continued talking about how Yahoo is the latest way to make it.
The rest of us were listening as they discussed.
When the driver reached my bus stop, I got down and left.
The whole scenario got me thinking. Is it like some parents don't know that Yahoo is bad?
How did we get here?
Mothers freely talking about their children's fraudulent activities without any atom of shame. They were even proud that their children are doing well with ill-gotten wealth.
Parents need to know the harmful consequences of supporting their children's fraudulent activities, they have a crucial role to play if our society must be better.
